Faster Recovery Run

Distance: 4.1 mi.
Time: 29:23.72 - 7:10 ppm.

I had a lot of work to do at home today, and I had to be at one of my restaurants at 11:15 to fill a valet shift, so I nearly ran out of time for the four mile recovery run I had scheduled. I didn't want to push it but I didn't want to lollygag either, and ended up covering 4.1 in less than 30 minutes. I got a few awkward glances from nurses and college students as I darted through Independence Park.

Revisiting a Favorite Route

Distance: 9.12 mi.
Time: 01:09:38 - 7:38 ppm.
Running Buddy

As far as I can tell, Tuesday is either going to be a workout day or a medium-long run day for the duration of my training plan. This week it was the latter. Anyone who has been reading this blog since last fall probably remembers me discussing a Freedom-Park-to-Independence Park run as one of my favorite routes. I did it again today for the first time since last December.

I made some minor changes to the route to add in more hills and I cut it slightly short at the end, but I completed nine-plus miles and enjoyed the slightly milder weather. August has been extremely kind to us after an incredibly awful June and July.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of this one, so I expect to see it show up again.

Another Easy One

Distance: 4.89 mi
Time: 00:37:42 - 7:42 ppm
Running Buddy

I didn't intend for things to be so easy these last two weeks, but we'll just let it be my tapering session, as discussed previously. We can't train and race hard all summer; there need to be breaks so I guess this was one of mine. A break hasn't involved any workouts yet but I may do one tomorrow, and I hope to get in another decently quick long run on Sunday.

I've been busy at work this week and I haven't had time to put together a long-term schedule yet, but I have been messing around on Athleticore. It looks to be a good way to compare workouts with others.

A Quicker Easy Run

Distance: ????

Somehow my Garmin troubles from yesterday carried over to today. The device appears to have fused my cooldown from UNCC into today's run. I don't know what's more odd - that, or the fact that I didn't notice it before I ran today. I basically ran just under 5 miles today at a pretty solid clip and felt great, despite some soreness in the legs from the workout. So far, as long as I keep the easy runs shorter, I don't think I'll have much trouble maintaining a good pace.

Changing the Route

Distance: 4.62 mi
Time: 00:35:54/7:46 pace

Lately, when the body feels it's time for a run, I have pretty much been getting in my car and driving straight to Freedom Park, without even thinking about it. I guess I've gotten tired of running from my apartment. In a related story, I need to move, but probably won't do so until next April. I can't quite run through the beloved Freedom Park area from home without adding in some unwanted miles. That said, I need to stop wasting gas, and I need to stop running 5-6 miles on every easy run. Today, I did the Independence Park/Elizabeth Avenue run, which is less than 5, and just clipped along at a comfortable pace. This is easily my favorite short run from home, and I will try to figure out some more for now.
